The first roller derby league in south county !

THE ROLLER DERBY WORLD CUP AND BRAZILIAN BOMBSHELL

I am proud of many accomplishments in my life but none can be compared to be representing Brazil at the first roller derby world cup in history.

If you have not heard about it yet, Blood & Thunder Magazine will be sponsoring the first roller derby cup in Toronto, Canada from December first through December fourth. Teams from all corners of the planet are expected to participate, countries such as USA, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and even Sweden will be sending their best skaters to play in this tournament. Exciting, isn’t it?

Ask any derby girl and she will tell you how amazing it feels to make into a league’s travel team roster, now multiple this feeling by a thousand and you will get an idea how I felt. When I saw my name listed as one of the players for the Brazil’s team I was so happy that I screamed and cried then it sank in: this is bigger than any bout or game I have ever played before, also more expensive!

Derby skaters are self sponsored; we pay to play derby and not the opposite. We make sacrifices everyday for the love of the sport; to miss a family function because of a bout or skip the sale rack to save money for new wheels is just a few of them. For a derby team, fundraising is as important as being the lead jammer in a jam or calling the jam out just as the other opposite jammer is about to make points, without capital there is no derby, without the jammer no points, the same applies to the world cup, without teams to play there will be no games. Although most of the teams have sponsors most of the expenses are covered by the skaters so support your favorite derby team by donating funds. If you would like to help check out the sponsorship links on the Blood & Thunder web page.

In order to make the world cup accessible to all, DNN announced that they will be streaming the games live through the internet, make sure to check the DNN webpage for more information regarding dates and times of broadcasting.

The most important day in roller derby history is getting closer and although the world cup may not be such a big deal for the rest of the world it means the world to me, the derby world that is!!
